Police Return Robbed N5m

The police in Lagos yesterday returned N5 million recovered from armed robbers to the banks that were robbed in Lagos recently.

A five-member armed gang Thursday, attacked City Express Bank Plc, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, and First Bank Plc, Isolo Industrial Estate, carting away large sums of money in 13 travelling bags and escaped through Badagry Expressway.

Briefing newsmen in Lagos yesterday, the out-going Lagos State Commissioner of Police, promoted to Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, said police intelligence network and the joint military/police patrol, intercepted the robbers at Orile and a shoot-out ensured. The robbers reportedly fled the scene and abandoned a Peugeout 504 station wagon and a Toyota Previa Bus containing N5,242,620.

Okiro said the cash belonged to the two banks and had been returned to them to sort out the amount belonging to each.

He said one of the robbery suspects Kayode Ajibiyi, had been arrested with bullet wounds and that he was currently undergoing investigation.
