Minister Blames Parents for Moral Decadence
By Henrietta Onuorah

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana, has blamed Nigerian parents for the moral decadence in the country. The minister stated this through his representative, Mrs. Nancy Oghenekaro, during a Parent's Day celebration by the Parenthood Foundation International on Saturday.

Gana said the country was being threatened by decay and explained that the family is a component of the society and whatever happens in it is reflected in the society.

Parents, he noted, have abandoned their duty of providing guidance to their children in pursuit of wealth, which can not be a substitute for moral teaching.

Also speaking at the occasion, Pastor Bola Osikoya, who said the theme, 'Raising a Purposeful Nation from the Home' harmonised perfectly with government's call for national re-birth, noted that national re-birth would begin with the individual family, through godly parenting.

Osikoya said the seminar was organised with the focus and purpose of bringing forth a new Nigeria from the old one. "A new Nigeria that is regenerated and ruled by adults carefully brought up, nurtured and admonished in the Lord", the old Nigeria has been a decaying one, haunted and characterised by hopelessness, corruption and violence, which he said have brought shame and disgrace to the nation.

In her own speech, Pastor Mrs. Deborah Osikoya said the aim and objectives of the foundation is to see children grow up in wholesome family setting, for them to grow into responsible and God fearing adults who will produce after their kind.
