A Thrilling Trek
  • ...As Abuja and Jos go Wild with this Weekend

    The on-going musical tour of major Nigerian towns and cities by NB Plc's Star Trek continues as Star Trek train moves to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and Jos in Plateau State this weekend amidst accolades.

    Music fans, enthusiasts, and star consumers in the ancient city of Ibadan, the rustic town of Uromi, oil rich Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State and booming commercial town of Owerri were treated to sizzling musical show in the past weeks by stars in the music scene. In the sprawling city of Ibadan, contemporary Apala music exponent, Musiliu Babatunde Haruna Ishola, son of late Apala icon, Haruna Ishola led a pack popular artistes including Omo Rapala, Abass Akande Obesere, Sound Sultan, Rasque, among others to entertain music fans in the Oyo State capital. Ghetto Soldier, Daddy Showkey, Tony One-Week, among others were on hand to teat music fans and Star Lager Beer consumers to a thrilling musical experience in Owerri, Uyo and Uromi jetty where the Star Trek music boat berthed.

    This weekend, the Trek continues with an all-night long musical extravaganza in the nation's capital territory, Abuja while music fans and Star Beer loyal consumers will welcome the train in the rocky city tomorrow.

    Top music stars featuring on this year's edition of the programme have described the musical tour as the best thing ever to happen to Nigerian music. In the words of the Ghetto Soldier, Daddy Showkey, Star Trek is not just the greatest thing that has happened to Nigerian music, "it is about the best programme that has enhanced my career. I must be sincere to my self. My career have been greatly enhanced by the Star Trek project," he said.

    Hence, he said that he is eternally grateful to Nigerian Breweries. "Most people in the nooks and crannies know our music, they listen to them but, have no opportunity of meeting the stars in person" he said. While commending Star for making this happen. Showkey promises to offer fans his best at every venue he performs.

    For Obesere, the Fuji exponent, Star Trek as a musical project bolted into the music scene like a bomb. He explained that the project has continue to succeed, "because it continues to select the best artist to perform each year." He commends Nigerian Breweries and says his fans should expect the best from him wherever he performs as the musical tour moves from city to city.

    On their part, Returnee kids on the block, Zulezu says fans should look out for real African rhythm. The Benue-born duo believe African music which they play is futuristic and they would make use of the opportunity offered by star to showcase their talents to Nigerians.

    This year's Trek began in Ibadan on April 2, 2004, igniting the ancient city with superlative performances by Abbas Akande Obesere, Musiliu Haruna Ishola, Rasque, Sound Sultan and Nigerian Music debutante, School Boys. The next day, it was the turn of Uromi in Edo State to savour the sweet melodies of Nigerian Music stars assembled by Star.

    Music fans, enthusiasts and star consumers who witnessed the show were thrilled to no end by Eedrees Abdulkareem and Tony One-Week among other stars. By the time the show ended in the wee hours of the morning, it was obvious to the organizers that something extra ordinary had hit the historic town as the fans kept shouting for more.

    To add spice to this years' show, consumers also have a chance of winning exciting prizes courtesy of Star, the brand that continues to celebrate life. As an added motivation Star is giving away at every concert venue, a 2.4 KVA Generator, 21" Colour TV, Audio CD Player, Video CD and Standing Fan .The prizes are won at each venue through raffle draws.

    Star Trek is the annual national music tour packaged by Star, Nigeria's pioneer and biggest lager to enliven the social atmosphere in Nigeria. The tour, which is on its third year, has continued to showcase top Nigerian Stars while spreading star Brightness and enjoyment to all parts of the country.

    The choice of towns visited by the Trek is largely determined by the need for star to reach every nook and cranny of the nation as it spreads the "Star Brightness" to millions of consumers nationwide. It is also aimed at taking top Nigerian music stars closer to the people at the grassroots.

    The trek gets more exciting in the coming weeks as it moves to Nigeria's capital city, Abuja today and Jos tomorrow as Enugu and Makurdi await their turn to host in the coming weeks.

    NB Plc's Public Relations Adviser, Larry Agose has promised that star fans are in for a great time in these cities as the brand and music continued to provide them undiluted entertainment.

    He reiterated that the continued sponsorship of music events like the Star Trek by Star Lager Beer is for three principal reasons as follows:

    i) To provide opportunities for our artistes to reap rewards from their talents.

    ii) To promote tourism and through it enhance the image of Nigeria with the outside world.

    iii) And thirdly to bring enjoyment to Nigerians who have supported Star all these years.
