The chairman of the Gombe State Transport Corporation, Gombe
Line, Alhaji Bappa Mahmud, has said that the transport company
generates about N5 million monthly in revenue.
Mahmud, who made this known at a media briefing after the
commissioning of 30 new buses of the corporation by the
State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Hashidu, said the company
was spending between N3million and N4million monthly as
running cost.
The company, he said, has about 34 vehicles before the
purchase of the new buses.
He said the new 30 Toyota and Nissan buses were bought
from Globe Motors, Lagos, at a cost of N99 million, and
insured for N10 million.
Said Mahmud: "We purchased each vehicle for N3.3 million.
We negotiated better because actual cost of a vehicle was
N4 million.
The chairman said the people of the state enjoyed about
N47 million subsidy on the Corporation's vehicles last year,
declaring:"We are rendering a social service, we do
not charge like the private transport buses. On debts owed
the Federal Urban Transport Authority by the company, Alhaji
Mahmud said government had settled over N20million of the
debts , leaving about N11million.
