Kudos to Igbo-Etiti LGA Transition Chairman

((( BACK

I was at home on January 21, 2003, to attend the burial ceremony of an uncle and I took time to observe the commendable achievements of the newly appointed Transition Chairman of Igbo - Etiti local government area in Enugu State. I was highly impressed not only because he performed those feats, but the speed in which they were achieved. What the dissolved elected chairman could not achieve in three years, he was able to perfect in few months.

He completed the chairman's office block under construction and commissioned same. He graded virtually all the feeder roads in all the communities that made up the local government. He built a new motor-park in Ogbede market which will generate more income to the council.

He paid the outstanding arrears of salaries of the local government staff up to December 2002 and a lot of them. His excellent performance earned him popularity among the indigenes, no wonder his new nick name "Action Chairman".

Investigation into the profile of the man at the helm of affairs reveals that he is an epitome of success. A man of vision who has virtually succeeded wherever he treads his legs. He is Chief (Hon) Ignatius Ishienyi. The Asaa Nabo and Ijite of Umunko. A sociology graduate of Enugu State University (ESUT) and the chairman, chief executive Ishienyi Links (WA) Ltd before his appointment as the Igbo- Ekiti transition committee chairman in early December 2002, in place of the former transition chairman, Hon. Mercel Ozor.

I am therefore using this medium to say kudos to the action chairman in appreciation of his gallant achievements in the local government area. And at the same time, advice other politicians to emulate him and learn how to render selfless services to the masses, which is the real dividend of democracy.

Ugwueke Agbakaemea, Lagos.
