  The North's Pact With Obasanjo, By Kaita
April 19 election

Second Republic Governor of old Kaduna State, Alhaji Lawal Kaita yesterday in Kontagora, Niger State, di-sclosed that President Olusegun Obasanjo has signed a written pact with Northern leaders in which he agreed to support a candidate from the core North to succeed him in 2007 if the zone helped him to secure re-election in next month's polls.

Kaita who made the disclosure while addressing a rally as part of the flag-off of President Obasanjo's campaign in the state said part of the agreement the president had with Northern leaders was that he would retain Vice President Atiku Abubakar in his re-election ticket.

"We northerners are honest people. We agreed that Oba-sanjo should add another four years. Because of the agreement, the entire north will support him this time around
