  Adesina Blames Arms Smuggle on Porous Border

Governor, Lami Adesina of Oyo State has attributed the large scale illegal importation of arms and ammunition to law enforcement laxity at the border posts.

Adesina made the observation while receiving in audience the new area comptroller of customs, Mrs. Anne Efenyinu, in Ibadan yesterday. The governor, who had in the past raised alarm over massive arms stocking in the state, said such importation ought to have been checked at the point of entry Adesina observed that the mass arms importation had reduced due to the tightening up of customs enforcement in the state he observed that a lot still needed to be done to enhance border patrol and security.

The governor contended that it was morally wrong for customsmen to seize wares at the Market place when such good were actually smuggled into the through the borders.

He deplored the persistent customs raid at the Agbeni market in Ibadan which, he said attracted a petition from the Oke Ado Motor Dealers Association.

The comptroller informed the governor that his commend seized 45 motor vehicles being smuggled through the border post in the state.

She said with the British American Tobacco (BAT) standing full operations soon, the N1.939 billiontarget set for the commend this year would be exceeded.
