  Group Urges Govt to Strengthen National Security

The Foundation for Youth Against Religious and Ethnic Violence in Nigeria (FOYAREV), has called on the Federal Government to strengthen security in the country to enable law enforcement agencies respond promptly to the current wave of threat to lives and property of the citizenry.

The group made the call at the palace of the Oba of Lagos, Adeyinka Oyekan II a condolence visit to the family of the late Oba, whom they described as a "father of peace".

The National Co-ordinator of FOYAREV, Mr. Haggins O. Peters, who spoke on behalf of the group, prayed for the soul of the late Oba who he said was a patron to the group before his demise two weeks ago.

"We all know what the Oba represents-peace and we will appreciate if peace remains in the palace and Lagos in general", he said, while imploring the family of the late oba to immotalise the late monarch by ensuring that peace reign not only in the palace, but throughout the metropolitan city of Lagos.

He said his association was working seriously to ensure that there would be no problem in the forth coming April election, through round table talks to educate youths across the nation on the dangers in political violence.

On their part, both the association 's National Chairman and the South-South Coordinator, Prince Joseph Iboi and Dr. B. C. Oseghale respectively, said Oba Adeyinka Oyekan was the first patron of the group, stressing that when the organisation was established, they sent letters to prominent Nigerians and the late monarch was the first to reply them accepting the offer.

"Hence, we are here to pay special condolence to the family of the late oba's family and to finally expressed our sincere sorrow over his demise", they said.

They consequently implored the family to embrace peace which the oba represented.

They used the opportunity to talk more about his organisation which he said is posed to promote peaceful coexistence among the various ethnic and religious groups in the nation and thus help to save the nation from violent conflicts.

Also paid a courtesy visit to the palace yesterday was the Wakaliki of Adamawa, Ambassador (Dr.) Hassan Adamu who eulogised the leadership qualities of the late Oba, calling for a concerted efforts to give the late monarch a befitting burial.

In a related development, Chief M. C. K Ajuluchukwu, who also was at the palace,

advised politicians to learn from the legacy the Oba left behind, stressing that the Oba ensured peace in the country by keeping the biggest city in peace knowing that it accommodated different tribes. :

He also appreciated the contribution of the Erelu of Lagos, Mrs. Abiola Dosumu who he said has contributed to the development of Lagos State, adding that Lagos experienced the greatest development during the reign of the late Oba Oyekan 11.

The Erelu thanked the various group that visited the palace for their concern, promising that the family would do well to esnure that the legacy of peaceful coexistence, love and brotherliness of the late Oba Oyekan was maitained.
