  Shun Violence, Kwara Politicians Urged

Politicians in Kwara State have been enjoined to eschew violence and bitterness to enrich the people of the state.

Prince Abdulkadir Okunlola Abdulkadir, made the call at a public lecture and award night organised by the Kwara Mirror newspaper in Ilorin.

He noted that political violence in the state had assumed an alarming rate adding that lives and property were no longer secured.

Abdulkadir, who was the guest speaker, warned that all government efforts at industrial development of the state might become a mirage if violence was not put under control.

Speaking on political dilemma in Kwara a problem of Ideology, he blamed the three senatorial districts for the slow pace of development in the state.

He said for meaningful development to be achieved, there must be unity among the sections.

Abdulkadir said the Igbomina and Ibolo people should stop looking at Ilorin indigenes as conservative while the Nupe Igala should be accorded respect.

Reacting to the lecture, Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon Benjamin Yissa Ezekiel described the incessant political crisis in the state as unfortunate.

He appealed to politicians in the state to call their supporters to order.

The speaker commended the management of Kwara Mirror and assured the people of the House of Assembly continued support.

The newspaper later presented 2003 distinguished award to some eminent Kwarans for their various contributions towards development of the state.

The recipients includes Major General Abdulkarim Adisa (rtd), Princess Olufunke Adedayo, Senator Makanjuola Ajadi, Comrade Bisi Fakayode and Abdulkadir.
