Osakwe Denies Involvement in ICPC Bill Passage

From Jaiyeoba Andrew in Asaba

((( BACK

Following the endorsement for amendment of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) Act by 22 Senators Senator Patrick Osakwe, (Delta North Senatorial District) has denied been among the legislators who endorsed the amendment.

Reacting to a publication in one of the national dailies linking him with the endorsement the ICPC Osakwe said, " I did not participate in the deliberation of the senate and Hanzard is there to prove those who voted for the amendment of ICPC".

While briefing newsmen in Asaba yesterday, the senator said it was unfair to link him with what he did not do, adding that the newspaper which published his picture should retract it in the interest of fairness.

Osakwe said whether he supported the amendment or not was a different matter.

He reiterated that as a senator, people should not speak his mind for him, saying he was intelligent enough to speak for himself.

Osakwe recalled that when President Olusegun Obasanjo was about to be impeached , he refused to sign for his impeachment document on the ground that he would have to consult with his people who gave him their mandate before taking unusual decision.
