  Ogun INEC to Hire 10,000 Adhoc Officials

The Resident Electoral Com-missioner (REC) of Ogun State Independent National Electoral Commission (IN-EC) Mr. Ekpeyong Nsa yesterday disclosed that the commission would require the services of over 10, 000 adhoc workers for the general elections in the state.

He further disclosed that those that would soon be recruited and trained in preparation for the smooth conduct of this elections would include a larger members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), teachers and the civil servants.

The commissioner said INEc would take its time to ensure that it did not engage the services of thugs, hooligans and those whose activities could lead to a break down of law and order.

Nsa described Ogun State as one of the sensitive areas that would be the focus of both Ni-gerians and most International communities.

He said he would democratise the entire process of election in the state, such that it would not lead to violence or any breakdown of law and order in President Olusegun Obasanjo's homestead.

Nsa said in furtherance to the burning desire of the commission to give credibility to the April general elections in the state, "I have directed that a state election implementation committee be set up."

Membership of the committee would be drawn from INEC, the security agencies, candidates for the election and journalism establishment.

A similar body will be put in place in all the 20 local governments in the state and would function under the supervision of the state implementation committee".

The task before the committee, Nsa would include to see to the distribution of election materials from state headquarters of the commission to the polling booths

  • To ensure that the materials are actually used in the field and that unused one are returned to the headquarters of the commission

  • To monitor the election results to the final collation centres and ensure that justice is done to all the aspirants and that the election is conducted in a free and fair manner."

    Members of the state election implementation committee include administrative secretary, police representative, state security service (SSS),Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) and representatives of all the governship candidates.
