One of the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Pa-rty (PDP)
in Ekiti State, Chief Afolabi Ariyo has described the on-going
opposition from within the party, curently confronting the
par-ty's gubernatorial candidate in the state, Chief Ayo
Fayose, as mere witch-hunting.
Ariyo maintained that such campaigns of calumny against
Fasoye cannot stand the test of time because they are not
built on truth.
Ariyo who expressed dis-satisfaction with the kind of opposition
Fayose is getting from members of the party, said the party
should instead be working out plans on how to wrest power
from the Alliance for Democracy (AD). He warned those fanning
the embers of crisis within the party should desist.
The PDP Chieftain reasoned that for someone who contested
and won without rancour, it would be the height of blackmail
and victimisation for anyone to lead an opposition against
such person.
The PDP Chief argued that having emerged the party's flagbearer,
the party was satisfied and confident with Faso-ye's candidacy
which is why "no amount of baseless campaign against him
would be entertained. He won, there were no problems. Besides,
he is a tested and trusted performer even in the private
sector, so what is more?.
"Any attempt to run him down would not work. We in the PDP
are not cheats and we don't work without reason. So far,
nothing concrete has been established against him even by
the so called oppositions. So, on what score are we going
to deal with him? Or just because someone wanted to secure
the ticket and could not? Is that enough excuse?", asked
the party man.
He enjoined Fayose not to be distracted by the trend, contending
that such is the way some people live and play their own
politics.
"It is our collective wish that Fayose becomes the governor
of our state so that life can improve here. We are witnesses
to his achievements outside of politics. He is one of the
few Nigerians who do not survive on politics. Fayose is
a successful administrator in the private sector and can
be a better administrator of affairs in our state polity",
said Ariyo.
