The 2010 World Cup bid Committee set up
by the Federal Government to actualise Nigeria's hopes of
hosting the global soccer event will today in Abuja be hosted
by the Vice President, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku.
The inauguration which will come in two folds, will see
the number two citizen, conferring on the members of the
twosome committees that will convince the Federation of
International Football Association (FIFA) that the country
has what it takes to host the world.
These committees are the ones of 30-member personalities,
which are the Main Bid Committee and the 100 personalities,
which is the Committee of Friends for the aspiration.
During the inauguration of the committees, the members
would be charged with the responsibilities of fulfilling
Fife's requirements in respect of provision of facilities
and other logistics.
A number of various sub-committees have also been set up
to help in working towards the hosting bid, so that Nigeria
could beat other competing nations like South Africa, Egypt,
Morocco and Algeria to it.
Among these committees are Media and Publicity, Facilities
and Venues, Transport, Protocol and Ceremonial, while the
Committee of Friends came in later to complement the existing
ones.
However, the country's bid seems to be having problems
with the President of the Federation of International Football
Association (FIFA), Sepp Blatter denying that Nigeria has
been allowed to submit a joint hosting bid for the 2010
World Cup.
But the Chairman of the Committee, Segun Odegbami insists
the country would still go ahead, despite mounting criticisms.
