Abuja 2003: COJA to Use Two Stadia Outside Abuja

From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja

((( BACK

Organising Committee of the 8th All Africa Games (COJA), has disclosed that aside from the Abuja National Stadium which will be the centre of attraction during the Games, it intends to engage two other stadia from the South South or Sout East of the country and the North East of the country.

Disclosing this at the Sportswriters forum in Abuja yesterday, Mr. Fan Ndubuioke, General Manager Media/ Communications of COJA, said COJA was looking beyond a state just having a stadium but one that was willing to assist COJA in ensuring that all the facilities needed will be adequately provided. He, however, refused to name the two stadia.

On the issue of publicising the activities of COJA, Ndubuioke said already, discussions were in top gear with state governors to provide COJA with five billboards each in each state to display COJA adverts.

The COJA spokesman expre-ssed is happiness with journalists so far for all the supportive they have given them. He said it was shocking that the usually Nigerian critical press have given COJA all the positive publicity so far. "We are still wondering what must have informed that but we want to observed that the relationship has been so sweet and we thank you all for this unprecedent support. We want to assure you that you will not regret this as we promised to deliver the best sporting activity ever in the history of All Africa Games", he said.

He said like Oliver Twist, he will ask for more since it was already less than 200 days to the commencement of the Games, for the journalists not to relent in their efforts in educating and publicising the activities and plans of COJA towards the games.

He observed that already mass publicity has begun in the airlines, luxury buses and coaster buses as COJA brochures are in the buses and airlines.

Ndubuioke also disclosed that the plans of COJA was to make journalists better professionals at the end of the day as laptops will be provided to all Nigerian journalists covering the games.
