The Performer

The Legendary Diana Ross

The legendary Diana Ross performed at the 12th Annual THISDAY Awards last weekend. The original diva, who was the pioneer of girl group drama, is famous for her place in history as a member of one of the best selling female groups of all time. Ms. Ross’s girl group fame paled in comparison to her solo career. She also had success as an actress in movies like Billy Holiday Sings the Blues and Mahogany. More recently, a story loosely based on her life as a Supreme was brought to the big screen again, in the multiple Golden Globe winning production, Dream Girls. As a living legend, she has seen everything that the biz has to offer, while still managing to be an intimidating voice on the world’s stage, as she proved, with her sultry voice.

The supreme woman that is Ms. Diana Ross brought the audience to their feet as she took them back to days of old with songs like, Stop in the Name of Love. She told her audience, “I’ve been singing since I was sixteen.” She wanted to take everyone from the past to the present through song. She achieved just that as everyone hailed her for her performance.

They clapped, sang, and swayed in their seats. Some couldn’t stay seated. “Diana we love you,” was shouted out more than a few times. Ms. Ross, was truly a sight to see. In the full spirit, that made her an icon, she changed into fantastic ensembles throughout her performance. Deola Sagoe provided two costumes and wardrobe assistants. Diana started with a sequined yellow, vintage gown, with an elaborate feathered coat. She then changed into a hot, black number. There was also a one armed, white dress that took us back to the days of the Supremes. The performance was truly awe-inspiring. The originally diva is still very much the same Diana that keeps her name on the lips of both the young and old. The Performers The Legendary Diana Ross
